Four Seasons -Celebration of Life

Coming up May 12th through 14th in Granville Island, Yayoi Theatre Movement presents Identity - Ancestral Memory, a multimedia dance performance that celebrates the life and poetry of the late Japanese Canadian artist Roy Kiyooka. Choreographers Yayoi Hirano and Jay Hirabayashi have collaborated to create a work that blends Noh mask theatre and butoh dance. This video of Four Season, (2005), shows Hirano progressing through the life cycle of a woman, wearing four self-carved Noh-theatre style wooden masks. The first portrays a teenage girl, the second a young woman, the third a middle age woman and last an old woman.
