Voguing Makes Sculpture

Rashaad Newsome clips from FIVE(TheDrawingCenter) March 6th 2014

Last month, New York-based artist Rashaad Newsome, captured voguing in three dimensions in a multimedia performance at the Drawing Center gallery, called FIVE. The voguing performance used an Xbox Kinect to record the nuanced movements of the performers, which will later be the DNA for Newsome’s sculpture work. FIVE also featured live musicians and live projected drawings, as seen in this video. To learn more about the event, read Robin Cembalest’s coverage here; and to learn more about voguing, read The Dance Current’s January/February 2014 issue
