Vancouver Korean Dance Society: Kicking off the Surrey Fusion Festival

Recently at the Surrey Fusion Festival (July 16-17), the Vancouver Korean Dance Society performed during the opening day celebration, including this solo with the changgo (an hour-glass shaped, double-headed drum). Now in it’s 4th year, the festival further offered a line-up of musical acts, cultural pavilions, food and artisans from over thirty-five countries.Vancouver Korean Dance Society was founded in 1996 and is directed by Hye Seoung (Vivian) Chung. According to the presenter’s website, Chung’s work is “inspired by the expanse of the Canadian landscape, the dynamism of Canada’s multicultural society, and the depth of Korean traditional dance.”
