Danny Nielsen - Tap Improvision

The Vancouver Biennale, held April 23rd through 30th, recently posted videos from its Big Ideas Performance Series this year. This improvised tap performance by Danny Nielsen took place April 27th at “The Walking Figures” sculpture site at the Canada Line City Hall Station. The Big Ideas program featured a lineup of thirty live performances, including artists from The Dance Centre, SFU Contemporary Art, A Star Is/Boogaloo Academy, Youth Street Dance Council, Arts Umbrella and 700 students and graduates from this year’s Vancouver Biennale Artist-in-Residence program. The Vancouver Biennale is a public art exhibition that combines sculptures, new media and performance art by established and emerging artists. The organizers’ vision of a playful and thought-provoking “open air museum” is also supported by the curriculum documents, professional symposiums and public lecture series they offer. As stated on their website: “Through a diversity of artistic mediums, aesthetic sensibilities and cultural perspectives, an open dialogue about the art and the importance of art in public spaces begins.”
