Tidley Cove Morris Dancers and Musicians: Victoria Day

By Julye Huggins
AFTERMATH REEL II

Yesterday during the Victoria Day celebrations in Burnaby, the Vancouver-based Tidley Cove Morris Dancers and Musicians presented traditional English Morris dancing. This all-women troupe performs its choreographed figures with sticks and handkerchiefs while accompanied by a variety of live music, including melodeon, concertina, penny whistle, recorder, bodhran, tambourine, triangle and mandolin. Now entering the group’s summer season (with upcoming gigs in Burnaby, Bowen Island and Seattle), they will be shifting their repertoire to include contemporary dances written by the Betty Lupton’s Ladle Laikers as well as traditional dances from the Cotswold tradition.
