We are now a few days into the 9th Annual Talking Stick Festival, which runs February 21st through February 28th throughout Vancouver. Organized by the Full Circle First Nations Performance and presented as part of the 2010 Cultural Olympiad, this showcase of Canada’s diverse Aboriginal artists includes theatre, storytelling, writing, music, dance, performance art and visual arts.It is also a forum for ideas. Yesterday, choreographers Yvonne Chartrand (of Compaigni V’ni Dansi), Alejandro Ronceria (of Earth in Motion World Indigenous Dance Company) and Michelle Olson (of Raven Spirit Dance) shared their thoughts in an informal conversation at the Choreographer’s Artist Talk.Other dance artists and companies features at the festival include Aboriginal Experiences Dance Troupe, Artcirq, Bob Baker, Byron Chief-Moon, Compaigni V’ni Dansi, Daina Ashbee, Dakhká Khwáan Dancers, Dancers of Damelahamid, Floyd Favel, The Git Hayetsk Dancers, Kaiva, Margo Kane, Nunatsiavut Drum Dancers, Red Sky, Shyama-Priya, Tsatsu Stalqayu, and Wonderbolt.
