Harbourfront Centre in Toronto kicks off TAIWANfest this week, running August 24th through 26th. On the roster of presentations is the indigenous contemporary dance company Tijimur Dance Theatre, performing Kurakuraw on August 25th. According to the presenter’s website, “Kurakuraw is a type of azure stone for Paiwan men to engage Paiwan women.” From this tradition, the work celebrates new beginnings for Paiwan couples and weaves a beautiful love tale.More dance at TAIWANfest? You betcha. Catch the Taiwanese tap dancing troupe Dance Works with their unique styling of traditional Taiwanese music and dance. Also, there is SumTais Dance returning this year with a new work blending Taiwanese traditional elements with new contemporary flare. And of course there’s the Line Dancers of Metro Square performing Rose, Rose, I Love You, which celebrates “the life of Feng Fei Fei, also known as The Queen of Hats, with a series of her songs in their newest line dances.”
