Springboard to the future

Springboard Danse Montreal Promo

Springboard Danse Montréal’s (SDM) unique three-week project offers advanced and professional dancers, age 19 and over, an immersive environment of daily classes, creative process workshops, rehearsals, and auditions. The 2014 edition brings together some of the world’s most renowned contemporary dance artists, including O Vertigo’s Ginette Laurin, Sylvain Émard Danse’s Sylvain Émard, RUBBERBANDance Group’s Victor Quijada, Staatstheater Kassel’s Johannes Wieland, as well as representatives from Kidd Pivot, Aszure Barton & Artists, GöteborgsOperan Danskompani, and Ohad Naharin, as mentors to the participants. The dancers, mainly from Canada and the United States, are chosen by audition by co-founder and artistic director Alexandra Wells, on faculty at New York’s Juilliard School. SDM also offers a platform for up-and-coming choreographers. A showing of “works in progress” is presented in a theater before an invited audience on the final day, June 27.
