A Solo of Ritual and Change

Ciel et cendres, presented by Lucie Grégoire Danse, is a solo work created in collaboration with lighting designer Paul Castro-Lopez and composer Robert Marcel Lepage. In the work, Grégoire approaches the concept of metamorphosis exploring a recurring female character that she embodies in many of her creations. She draws concepts and gestures from her time with the Achuar indigenous, ritualistic tribe in the Amazonian jungle in Ecuador, as well as from Jocelyne Saucier’s award-winning novel Il pleuvait des oiseaux (And the Birds Rained Down) which deals with themes of tragedy, survival, recovery, and freedom. Ciel et cendres will be performed May 14 to 16 at the Agora de la danse in Montréal.
