Sandy Silva Collective: Do I Know You?

By Julye Huggins

According to Sandy Silva’s website, her percussive dance style “draws from the drum and dance traditions of Celtic step dance, Spanish Flamenco, American tap, Hungarian legenyes, Appalachian buck dance and modern dance.” This video of her work Do I Know You? highlights creative and rhythmic use of the body, featuring herself with dancers Dominic Desrochers, Hélène Lemay, David Boulanger, Carol Jones, Josianne Laporte and Sonia Clarke.Running October 1st through 9th at Tangente in Montréal, the Sandy Silva Collective presents appartement #21. This duet for Silva and Dominic Desrochers offers a glimpse at day-to-day events and life fragments (past and present) from the lives of a man and woman: “a photo album that allows us to navigate the intimacy of these two beings, making us witnesses of their complicity and their daily episodes of joy, doubt, tumult and sweet madness.”
