The Return of Peter Quanz’s Untitled

Q Dance | Work in Process

Choreographer Peter Quanz questions trust in Untitled, seen here as a duet for Jo-Ann Sundermeier and Tristan Dobrowney. The finished ballet from 2013 explores a group of people struggling with the duality of drawing strength from within their community while also serving the basic individual needs to survive. Untitled along with a new contemporary ballet by American Gabrielle Lamb (who danced with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal from 2000 to 2009) and one by Quanz will make up Q DANCE’s June show. In addition to these two new works, the dance film Self as Other II by Dominique Rey will be screened. Self as Other II is the second in a trilogy of dance films Quanz is currently creating with Rey and features Metis contemporary dancer Arlo Reva in an exploration of the German Erlkönig story of a traveller through the forest who meets a darker side of him/herself.

Winnipeg has been a creative home base for Quanz since his training days at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, when he first choreographed on the company in a workshop at age seventeen. Now, eighteen years later, Quanz is once again making work for the company, as well as internationally, through his company Q DANCE.

Q DANCE runs in Winnipeg June 10-12.
