Coming up in April, Red Sky Presenting Series presents a two-night event in Toronto featuring the life of acclaimed dancer Jock Soto, former principal dancer with the New York City Ballet. According to Red Sky, he is reputed as “the most choreographed dancer in the company’s history” with a twenty-four-year career including roles in over forty ballets created for him by the likes of Peter Martins, Jerome Robbins, Christopher Wheeldon and Lynne Taylor-Corbett. He is currently an honorary board member at Red Sky Performance. The first evening, April 4th, will feature Soto reading from his intimate memoir Every Step You Take (2011), followed by a book signing and personal interview between Soto and Red Sky’s artistic director Sandra Laronde. On April 5th, there will be a screening of the critically acclaimed PBS documentary Water Flowing Together. While Gwendolen Cates’ film explores Soto’s career an artist of Navajo descent, Red Sky notes, “it is as much about the complexities of the man, about heritage, identity and transition.”
