ProArteDanza Season 2012 - Expire excerpts

Coming up soon in Toronto, October 3rd through 6th, ProArteDanza presents Season 2012 at Harbourfront Centre. Under the direction of Roberto Campanella and Artistic Associate Robert Glumbek, the company offers a compelling mixed program, including Campanella’s passionate duet Decorum (2005), Kevin O’Day’s pas de deux We Will… (2008) and the athletic ensemble work Beethoven’s 9th 1st Movement (2009) by Campanella and Glumbek. These two award-winning choreographers will also be presenting the premiere of Expire, described on their website as “a complex and emotive work that once again showcases the incredible talent and versatility of the company.” The cast of the show includes Glumbek, Kristen Dennis, Mami Hata, Johanna Bergfelt, Tyler Gledhill, Louis Laberge-Côté, Ryan Lee, Delphine Leroux, Erin Poole, Anisa Tejpar and Brendan Wyatt. In the company’s recent newsletter, Campanella shared some thoughts about the creative process for the new work: “For Expire, we began with the concept of breath in general: what it means; the stresses in life that hinder our ability to breathe; and, the discomfort that comes with that inability to breathe. We tend take breathing for granted and we also don’t stop to consider the effect that stress has on breathing. Stress can bring suffering, which literally makes it difficult to breathe.”Be sure to check out the October 2007 issue of The Dance Current print magazine for an item on Roberto Campanella, the artistic director of ProArteDanza.
