Last Friday, the Polonez Polish Folk Arts Ensemble performed at the Royal Days International Folk Dance Festival in Székesfehérvár, Hungary (August 14th though 21st). According to the festival’s website, the annual event invites dancers and musicians from all over the world and, in its fifteen-year history, “has welcomed nearly 5000 dancers and musicians, 130 ensembles, and over 60 countries during the festivals.”Polonez is a Canadian ensemble based out of Edmonton, under the artistic leadership of Dr. Walenty Michalik. Founded in 1982, the group has brought Polish folk culture to the fore, including historic noble court dances and lively dances from the countryside. This award-winning ensemble is often featured at such international folklore festivals, as well as local events. Their next performance will be September 10th at the 6th edition of the Kaleido Family Arts Festival in Edmonton, which runs September 9th through 11th.
