O Vertigo - La Chambre Blanche (extraits/excerpts) - Ginette Laurin

Coming up May 6th and 7th in Vancouver, the Montréal-based company O Vertigo presents La Chambre Blanche, a 2008 re-creation of Ginette Laurin’s celebrated 1992 work. Having premiered nearly twenty years ago at the 5th Festival international de nouvelle danse de Montréal (FIND), the work then toured internationally and garnered its choreographer the Grand Prix of the Montréal Urban Community Arts Council and the Dora Mavor Moore Prize. According to the company’s website, Laurin describes her vision of the dance as a confining site which “brings on states of dismay and frenzy in its captives. [In La Chambre Blanche] the characters are probed in their deepest intimacy and placed in a situation of extreme vulnerability where the body has no choice but to abandon itself to disequilibrium and dizziness.”Performers include Marianne Gignac-Girard, Chi Long, Robert Meilleur, Nicolas Patry, James Phillips, Gillian Seaward-Boone, Audrey Thibodeau, Wen-Shuan Yang and Brianna Lombardo. In the May 2011 issue of The Dance Current print magazine, Lombardo is given a brief personal interview.Be sure to check out the Summer Annual 2009 issue of The Dance Current print magazine for an item on O Vertigo.
