Nuit_Nacht_Notte

By Julye Huggins
Nuit_Nacht_Notte - nouvelle création de Jocelyne Montpetit Danse - Du 27 au 31 octobre 2009 20 H

Tonight through to the 31st, Agora de la danse presents Jocelyne Montpetit’s new work Nuit_Nacht_Notte, including an artist talk back on the 29th. Born in Montreal, she trained in Europe and Japan, returning to Canada to form Jocelyne Montpetit Danse in 1990. Like many of her company’s works, the influence of Japanese stage arts shine through, notably that of Butoh dance. Nuit_Nacht_Notte addresses the theme of darkness and night from different angles: an interior world, dreams & memories, mystery & death. Her vision takes influence from both impressionist painters and literary masters, including Francis Bacon, T.S. Eliot, Rainer Maria Rilke, and Fernando Pessoa. For more on the shaping of this work, check out the video below for an interview in French.
