The Nova Scotia Archives has released a variety of 16mm footage from the 1920s and 1930s, including some dance clips. In this montage of Allen Fraser’s films, we find the short dance film A Screen Scrapbook - Woodland Dance directed by Hylda Davies (between time codes 3:57 and 6:13). According to the archives posting, Davies was a dance, teacher and choreographer who came to Halifax after World War I and became the director of a highly successful dance school. Among her contributions to cultural life in Halifax over a span of twenty-five years, she “established a series of Prologue performances at the Capitol Theatre between movies.”Another dance clip in this video also shows an English May pole folk dance, performed on Studley field at Dalhousie campus.
