Don Quixote - National Ballet of Cuba

In February 2012 The National Ballet of Cuba will visit Vancouver for the very first time, presenting its acclaimed production of Don Quixote February 16th through 18th at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. This video highlights a DVD version of the ballet performed at Grand Palais in Paris. According to the video notes, “This joyous, sparkling work is perfectly suited to the company’s mix of classicism and panache – a style that combines Russian technique and American rapidity with a thoroughly Latin sensibility. Performed in the original Alicia Alonso version, Don Quixote devotes all of its two hours to authentic Spanish dance: sensational portés, vertiginous leaps, splendid pirouettes, sublime solos and stunning variations.”The performances in Vancouver finishes off the company’s tour of British Columbia that will feature a mixed repertoire show called The Magic of Dance. The company will hit Victoria (February 3-4), Nanaimo (February 7), Banff (February 9), Kelowna (February 11-12) and Chilliwack (February 14).
