In her feature article, “Breaking Bad: The New Bgirls”, Mary Fogarty speaks with a number of Canadian bgirls, most of who trace their inspiration when dancing from two sources: “First of all, music was the key to their practice, opening a lot of doors to new ideas and creativity. Taking musical inspiration a step further, Vancouver bgirl J-Kay “JK47” Agudo also co-directs a band called the Freestyle Rap Alliance with her partner, Rupert Common, that involves singers, emcees, beatboxers, dancers and musicians. Secondly, many of the bgirls described the inspiration they found watching someone dance. Notably, they all mentioned that it wouldn’t necessarily have to be a highly skilled dancer that inspired them.”
