You met him in the January/February issue and now here is a peek at Yvon “Crazy Smooth” Soglo’s new work, Music Creates Opportunity, opening this week in Charlottetown, PEI, at the Confederation Theatre. ”I wanted to take an idea like contact improvisation and apply it to bboying – while remaining authentic to the style,” says Soglo of this new work that takes his company dancers in a direction that explores the fundamentals of different styles. While still on the east coast, Soglo and dancers visit Miramichi, NB, before beginning their tour of Ontario, stopping in Kirkland Lake, Deep River and St. Catharines all before the end of March.
In June, as festival season takes flight across Canada, the Canada Dance Festival (CDF) kicks off in Ottawa. I took on the CDF by bike, for the ease of speed when moving from one venue to another.
