On March 31st, Compagnie Marie Chouinard hits Fredericton with bODY_rEMIX/gOLDBERG_vARIATIONS, a work that will later tour to Montréal (April 9-10) and Bregenz, Austria (April 29). The presenters at the Fredericton Playhouse have put together this three-part interview with Chouinard to describe what one may come to expect of her work. Between pointe shoes, prostheses, harnesses and crutches, devices transform, fetter, sculpt and liberate the movements of the athletic dancers. According to the company’s website, “this use of accessories gives rise to unusual bodily shapes and gestural dynamics and opens onto a universe of meticulous and playful explorations in which solos, duos, trios and group work, in their labour, pleasure and invention, echo the human condition.”Several other works in the company’s repertoire will be seen in Montréal over the next couple of months, including Étude no 1, Les Trous du ciel, Orpheus and Eurydice and Des feux dans la nuit. The company’s spring touring will also take its acclaimed works Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and The Rite of Spring to Den Haague, Netherlands and Bogotá, Columbia.
