Margie Gillis: Voyages Into the Inner Landscapes

Tomorrow the 21st Festival of New Dance launches in St. John’s. The festival, running October 11th through 16th, showcases some of Canada’s top contemporary talent while also providing opportunities for local artists, including main stage performances, site-specific events, workshops, discussion forums, film screenings and art displays. Tomorrow’s opening night gala features works by local artist Sarah Joy Stoker, emerging artist Lynn Panting and Governor General’s Award winner for Lifetime Achievement Margie Gillis.Gillis’ Voyages into the Interior Landscapes “is evocative of the mysteries of life and death, the fear of loving and fear of losing, ” according to the company’s website. “From abandonment to hope, from anger to forgiveness, this performance takes us on a unique adventure into the furrows of the human soul.”Be sure to check out the April 2010 issue of The Dance Current print magazine for an item on Margie Gillis.
