Touring to Canada from Spain, María Pagés Compañía presents Autorretrato at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa on March 27th, the Sony Centre in Toronto on March 30th and at Place des Arts in Montréal, April 4th through 6th. Pagés is an internationally renowned flamenco artist and contemporary innovator. The process for this work began in 2007, inspired by a challenge from luminary ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov, who sought a work that would showcase the personal journey of Pagés as both an artist and a human being. The world premiere was at the International Forum Theatre in Tokyo, 2008. This poetic self-portrait brings Pagés herself to the stage, along with dancers Isabel Rodríguez, María Vega, Eva Varela, José Barrios, José Antonio Jurado, Pac o Berbel and Rubén Puertas.
