Why We Dance By Julye Huggins
Why We Dance

This video was created by I Love Dance/J’aime la danse, a Canadian campaign that works to collaborate with all styles of dance in an attempt to raise general awareness of the importance of Canadian dance culture. This six-year program (2011-2017) is based on the campaign’s created dance manifesto stating the relationship of dance to social good, human advancement, health (in body, mind and spirit), happiness, diversity and cohesion, etc. Initiated through the Canadian Dance Assembly, the aim of the campaign boils down to three goals: public support, professional empowerment and public engagement. Located in London, Ontario, is Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts. This public elementary school in the Thames Valley District School Board presents an enhanced program, adding to the heart of the curriculum with a range of art-based opportunities. This facility uses the arts to reach students and provide openings in their learning to create relationships, engage in creative thinking and express thoughts and feelings in a variety of mediums. The school’s attention to the arts is said to have a positive impact as it leaks out into the London community. Inspired by Sir Ken Robinson, Lester B. Pearson School for the Arts and Principal Ian Bennett continue to provide an education that will help each and every student develop without the concerns of competition or standardized education.
