Kinesis Dance: Box⁴

By Julye Huggins
Paras Terezakis' BOX⁴

Running December 2nd and 3rd in Calgary, Kinesis Dance presents Box⁴ (Box to the fourth power) by Paraskevas Terezakis. Box⁴ began as a re-visioning of Terezakis’ 1994 work A Parcel of Men’s Knowledge, moving away from linear story to address masculine tensions and dominance, as well as confinement, possession and aggression.According to the company’s YouTube channel, the work more specifically deals with the media, and ideas around space, limitation, accountability, information, communication and isolation. “Media, and the constant barrage of information we receive daily, has become as much of an impediment to the every day rather than enlightenment. The weight of knowledge, distraction and power of news and the fleeting relevance of news clips affects our sense of compassion and sensitivity is so many adverse ways.”Be sure to check out the April 2009 issue of The Dance Current print magazine for an item on Paraskevas Terezakis.
