By Julye Huggins
Retrospective: 25 Years (2012) - Official Trailer

A special Retrospective: 25 Years presentation by Joe Ink will hit Victoria February 6th and 7th, and then appear at the Vancouver International Dance Festival from March 6th to 9th. The show celebrates a quarter century of works by award-winning Vancouver-based dance artist Joe Laughlin and showcases three of his favourite creations: Harold, Billy, Stan, and Jack (1997), Left (2003) and dusk (2011). The repertoire is taken up by dancers Karissa Barry, Katherine Cowie, Heather Dotto, Tara Dyberg and Kevin Tookey - some of whom Laughlin has worked with for years and others for the first time. The Victoria presentation will also include a newly commissioned work created on Ballet Victoria dancers, which pays homage to Frederick Ashton’s 1937 ballet choreography Les Patineurs. For the Vancouver presentation, there will be a remounting of Clearing (2011), a duet based on waacking. According to his website, the programme promises to be “humorous, touching, dark and tender.”Be sure to check out the Summer Annual 2011 and 2008 issues of The Dance Current print magazine for items featuring Joe Laughlin.
