Indigenous Dance at The Banff Centre

Indigenous Dance 2012 at The Banff Centre

Featured as a performance highlight in the July/August 2014 issue of The Dance Current, The Banff Summer Arts Festival started June 14 and runs until August 23. The end of the festival features Bonemap, a new work exploring Indigenous contemporary dance with connections to tradition and ancestry, interpreted by dancers in the 2014 Indigenous Dance Residency and led by faculty members Sandra Laronde, Jock Soto, Waneek Horn-Miller and Thomas Fonua. Laronde is seen in this video from the 2012 Indigenous Dance Residency, in which New Zealand-based choreographer Taane Mete describes his work, rich with personal and cultural references, created as part of the program.
