inDANCE: In Conversation with CTV Morning Live

By Julye Huggins
Canada Dance Festival

This video hails back to June 11th, when members of inDANCE spoke to CTV Morning Live prior to their show at the Canada Dance Festival, which ran June 9th through 16th. Artistic Director Hari Krishnan is joined here by Gerry King, Paul Charbonneau and Matthew Montgomery.Their mixed program included an excerpt of the solo Pissing off the Neighbours, created and performed by Krishnan - the full work premiered last week at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival as part of The Men Dancers: From the Horse’s Mouth (July 11th through 15th). Also on the program was Krishnan’s Quicksand performed by an impressive cast of ten male dancers.According to the presenter’s website, inDANCE offers a synthesis of Western aesthetics with South Indian bharatanatyam. “While respecting the legacy of tradition, inDANCE boldly investigates post-modern evolutions that place the company on a trajectory of imbibing influences from the West into its strong and confident idiom of contemporary Asian cultures. It produces eclectic, sensual, virtuosic and evocative dance creations that challenge dominant discourses on global culture.”For more on Hari Krishnan, be sure to check out the October 2007 issue of The Dance Current.
