Canada celebrates its first ever National Dance Week, which officially launches the I Love Dance/J’aime la danse campaign (2011-2017) to the Canadian community at large. I Love Dance/J’aime la Danse is a six-year awareness campaign that began a year and a half ago amongst the Canadian Dance Assembly (CDA) and dance professionals. According to CDA’s website, the campaign’s goal is to strengthen and increase the visibility of the dance sector in Canada, as well as “help develop unique benefits and services that will strengthen collaboration and commitment to the expansion and development of dance as integral to Canadian culture.”To recognize National Dance Week, the nation will be full of dance activities from British Columbia to Nova Soctia, and a different theme will be celebrated every day of the week, leading up to International Dance Day on April 29th: April 22 – Dance is vital our communitiesApril 23 – Dance is fitness and a tool for healthy communitiesApril 24 – Dance expresses diverse communities – social cohesionApril 25 – Dance is a source of well being for seniorsApril 26 – Dance empowers Canadian youthApril 27 – Dance creates a creative economy April 28 – Canadian dance’s international impactApril 29 – International Dance Day!
