Great Northern Arts Festival

25th Anniversary By Mikaela Demers

Earlier this month, the 25th Anniversary of the Great Northern Arts Festival passed. The festival first began in the summer of 1989 with a total of 120 First Nations and non-First Nations participating artists and performers from across Canada’s north gathered in Inuvik. The festival organizers and participants aim to share culture and creativity with a large emphasis on the Canadian North and with the commonality of isolation in mind. The festival has grown to host visiting artists from around the world, and attracts an international audience.
