Getting to the Nutcracker

 

In this sneak peek at the documentary Getting to the Nutcracker by filmmaker Serene Meshel-Dillman, you see the amount of preparation that goes into the much-loved holiday production. In the film, Meshel-Dillman follows students at Los Angeles-based Marat Daukayev School of Ballet from auditions to their final performances of The NutcrackerGetting to the Nutcracker was inspired by a book published in 1976 by Jill Krementz titled A Very Young Dancer. The book followed students at The School of American Ballet (SAB) in their lead-up to their performances with New York City Ballet. Meshel-Dillman was a student at SAB at the time.
