Estelle Clareton - Four at the Winch Quebec

Wrapping up this weekend in Toronto, Four at the Winch Quebec features Montréal-based choreographers Estelle Clareton, Lina Cruz, Deborah Dunn and Jean-Sébastien Lourdais, whose works have been created on the dancers of Toronto Dance Theatre (TDT). The show runs February 23rd through March 3rd.This video highlights an interview with Clareton, who praises the experience of working with new dancers, noting in particular the strong technical training she has found at TDT with dancers Alana Elmer, Peter Hessel, Ryan Lee, Pulga Muchochoma, Jillian Peever, Kaitlin Standeven, Brodie Stevenson and Sarah Wasik. The project Four at the Winch is built on such collaborations, enabling emerging and established choreographers to experiment, explore and take risks in their creation of new works, using “TDT’s dancers as their raw material.” According to the company’s website, this vision “gives the company the opportunity to experience other ideas and working processes allowing the dancers to show different sides of themselves to our audience.”Be sure to check out the Summer Annual 2011 issue of The Dance Current print magazine for an item on Estelle Clareton.
