Fortier Danse-Création: Cabane

By Julye Huggins

Fortier Danse-Création finishes its tour of Cabane (2008) next week with stops in Baie-Comeau and Sept-Îles, Québec. In this multidisciplinary show, dancer and choreographer Paul-André Fortier and musician Rober Racine share the stage with Robert Morin’s video images and an authentic portable shack. On the company’s website Fortier explains that the shack is an extension of the site for Solo 30x30 (2006), in which he performed the same solo at the same site for thirty days. However he notes that this time the site is “constructed and enclosed. It contains the whole world…” This video gives a taste of the performance as Fortier explores the space in and around the transformative hut and Racine makes music on mesh-sprung box springs.Be sure to check out the November 2006 issue of The Dance Current print magazine for an article on Fortier Danse-Création.
