Today, Vancouver’s premier flamenco company, Flamenco Rosario, perform as part of The Dance Centre’s ongoing Discover Dance! program. Founded in 1989 under the direction of Rosario Ancer and Victor Kolstee, Flamenco Rosario develops flamenco dance and music in both traditional and contemporary styles through performances, workshops and professional training across Vancouver. In addition to the performing company, Flamenco Rosario presents the ongoing Cuadro Flamenco series featuring traditional dance styles, and hosts the popular Vancouver International Flamenco Festival in the fall, which features local, national and international guest artists. The hour-long performance (also featuring classical Indian dance company Mandala Arts and Culture performing in the traditional bharatanatyam style) begins at twelve noon, with tickets starting at $8.
As a part of our series, Dance Criticism: Perceptions, challenges and the future, Grace Wells-Smith speaks to four Canadian dance critics about how dance criticism fits into the current fold.
Tonight in Vancouver, Flamenco Rosario closes its run of Mis Hermanas, a multimedia production that touches home for Artistic Director Rosario Ancer.
