More more more... future - Faustin Linyekula

Coming up next month, June 1st through 3rd, Montréal’s Festival TransAmériques will present More more more… future by Congolese choreographer Faustin Linyekula. From the infamous booty-shaking ndombolo (criticized as obscene and indecent in many parts of Africa) Linyekula blends rumba, pop, funk and blasts of punk rage. Announcements from Festival TransAmériques provide further detail: “To the poems of Antoine Vumilia Muhindo, a political prisoner in Kinshasa, he makes dance boil over into trance, creating a galvanizing choreographic concert. A fully engaged work committed to social justice, a piece that radiates irresistible energy.”The March 2010 issue of The Dance Current print magazine includes a feature entitled “Dancing the African Diaspora in Canada” by Naomi Brand. Be sure to check out the article and a collection of Canadian artist profiles.
