The greatly admired thirty-nine-year-old choreographer is about to create her first long-form, large-company piece with Toronto Dance Theatre (TDT).” By Ben Portis, The Dance Current: Print, March/April 2013.Coming up next month, March 6th through 9th, Toronto Dance Theatre presents Everyday Anthems, a commissioned choreography by Strauss. With retrospective curiosity, her work draws on turning points and formative moments in the lives of the performers. These personal positions and their journeys bring up individual agency with respect to the force of the group. Further described on the company’s website, “Everyday Anthems is a fervent ode to personal strength, to things unrequited, to power in numbers, and to belonging. It is an intense physical celebration of now, and the unknown ahead.”The cast includes Alana Elmer, Mairi Greig, Syreeta Hector, Yuichiro Inoue, Pulga Muchochoma, Kaitlin Standeven, Brodie Stevenson, Naishi Wang and Jarrett Siddall. Collaborating on the production are also set and costume designer Teresa Przybylski, lighting designer Rebecca Picherack, writing advisor Brendan Gall and composer Thomas Ryder Payne.
