Elizabeth Chitty: Drop

Last weekend in Ottawa, the Society for Canadian Dance Studies hosted their 2010 conference: “Renegade Bodies: Dance in Canada in the 1970s.” Among the guests and speakers was Elizabeth Chitty, an interdisciplinary artist who, according to the conference program, “is known as an important innovator in Canadian performance art of the 1970s and as a video artist exhibited in the late ʼ70s and early ʼ80s including at the 11e Biennale de Paris (1980) and the opening of the new National Gallery of Canada (1988).”Her work Drop was performed outside 410 Queen St. W. in Toronto in June 1976 as part of the series D.A.N.C.E., a project of 15 Dance Lab and Visus.
