Dusk Dances’ 17th season continues to liven up community parks around the country with an array of eclectic contemporary and traditional dance works. This video highlights some of the pieces that have appeared in past seasons, each being a ten-minute commissioned dance inspired by the park’s natural setting. Each stop on the tour offers a different lineup of shows, and this week host Shannon T. Boodram will guide audiences through Scarborough’s Neilson Park to see Kaha:wi by Santee Smith of Kaha:wi Dance Theatre, Stink by Jenn Goodwin and premieres by both Tamla Matthews of Caribbean Dance Theatre and the dance crew Raw Energy. Crowds will also enjoy a musical performance by Keith Pascall and musicians.This summer’s first stop was McGregor Park in Scarborough (June 25), followed by Strathcona Park in Ottawa (June 30-July 3) and then Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver (July 13-16). This week, it hits Neilson Park in Scarborough (July 20-23) and then Head Lake Park in Haliburton (July 28-31). Next month, it starts at Withrow Park in Toronto (August 2-7), makes an appearance at Chalkfarm Park in North York (August 13), movse on to Earlscourt Park in Toronto (August 18-21) and ends the tour at Arena Grounds in Flesherton (August 25-28).
