In celebration of its fortieth anniversary, La Fédération Culturelle Canadienne-Française (FCCF) presented a video series, in collaboration with Unis TV, highlighting French Canadian arts and culture. Each video covers a different discipline, from music, theatre, literature and visual arts to cultural work. The series aims to celebrate the connection between the francophone arts community and its language, land and identity.
The first video in the series covers dance. Three performing artists from differing generations and regions in Canada presented their own choreography to the same piece of music. Contemporary dancers Julie Duguay and Elise Page, who hail from Acadia and Winnipeg respectively, and Ottawa-based hip-hop and break artist Yvon Soglo (a.k.a. Crazy Smooth) perform their works in novel locations that are emblematic of their corners of the country. What results is a choreographic work showcasing a unified French-Canadian artistic goal.
