TV Spot - West Side Story

Toronto is still tapping its feet to West Side Story, now nearing the end of its May 8th through June 3rd run, presented by Dancap Productions at the Toronto Centre for the Arts. This Broadway Romeo-and-Juliet-type love story, directed by David Saint, brings to life the work of Tony Award-winning librettist Arthur Laurents and breathes new life into the original 1957 production (directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins). With music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, the score is considered a Broadway highlight - its new cast album recently won the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. According to the presenter’s website: “This exciting new Broadway production is the longest running, most successful West Side Story ever to play Broadway and features both English and Spanish dialogue and lyrics. The result is a powerful and ideal balance, offering audiences the most authentic emotional expression of the piece that enhances its universality.”
