Back on May 14th, Canada’s Got Talent announced the winners of its first season. Down to the wire, the final three competitors were the hip hop crew Freshh, rock band Angry Candy and dance troupe Sagkeeng’s Finest. The publicly voted champions were the teenaged trio Vince O’Laney with brothers Dallas and Brandon Courchene from Sagkeeng First Nation in Manitoba. Their prizes included $100, 000, a sports car (worth $105, 000) and more television appearances.The troupe impressed the judges with their fusion of tap dance with jigging (a traditional style in Sagkeeng). According to their Facebook page, the dancers began training four years ago in a square dance team called Sagkeeng Elders of The Past Memorial Dancers. Over the years, they acquired new styles and decided to form this specific trio for this talent competition. To see their final performance, check out the video below.
