This month country dancers are gearing up for the Calgary Dance Stampede 2012, running April 27th through 29th at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Described on its website as “Canada’s largest and longest running country, swing and line dance event, ” the stampede is a weekend jam-packed with activities for country and swing dancers from all over North America. It includes everything from dance competitions to workshops (including free public beginner workshops), dinners and variety shows. It is also a fully sanctioned UCWDC Worlds Qualifying Event, which means that dancers are competing not only for top placements in their division, but also for spots at the World Championships in January. However, it also includes other (non-UCWDC) competitions as well, including the Alberta Amateur Country Dance Contest (AACDC). If you’re looking to catch some great shows that weekend, spectator tickets are available on the event’s website.
