Running March 24th through 26th in Toronto, dance Immersion’s 2011 showcase will feature Baby Boyz Dance Group and presents their work Three Boyz, Three Countries & One Dream: An Urban Dance Story. According to Harbourfront Centre’s website, the dance is about three young men from Africa, Jamaica and Canada who “share one dream, but none of them could guess where that dream would lead − or how it would impact their lives and the lives of those around them.”This video highlights some of the company’s work, which fuses the genres of dancehall and hip hop with influences from African and contemporary dance. As they strive to become Canada’s first dance group to make it to the top of the urban dance industry, they have made quite a name for themselves in four years. Their credits include performances with numerous music artists (such as Chris Brown, LL Cool J, Sean Paul, Ne-Yo, Elephant Man, Rita Marley and more), features in music videos (such J-Diggz, K-OS, Keshia Chante and Rihanna) and movie spots in Beat the World, How She Moves, Take the Lead, and the 50 Cent production Get Rich or Die Trying. Their commercial success is also paired with a socially-minded mission to “use dance to reach out to at-risk youth to teach them the importance of learning essential life lessons such as discipline, focus, organization and positivity.”
