Halifax continues to rumble during the 5th annual Atlantic Flamenco Festival, which runs October 2nd through 20th. The city’s thriving flamenco community is a great place to celebrate and connect with Spanish dance, music and culture. The festival’s programming ranges from introductory workshops and free concerts to more advanced master classes and thrilling performances from world-renowned artists. Highlighting the event is a performance on October 14th and 15th by the elegant La Zambra (aka Maribel Ramos), one of Spain’s finest professional dancers. Here in her Canadian debut, she is known for effortless swift turns and unusually strong and precise footwork. As detailed on the festival’s website, she will be joined by the commanding presence of Oscar de los Reyes, “a formidable force of sensuality, power, and lightning fast footwork.” Their press release further notes: “They are joined by vocalist Jesus Corbacho, whose singing evokes the dark soul of flamenco and Tino van der Sman, whose guitar melodies embody the pulse of Spain.”
