4OUR by Vancouver choreographer Joe Laughlin explores “family dynamics, cross-generational relationships and the singular moments that shape our life’s journey.”
As a quartet, it considers the power of memory and the formation of memories as we navigate the arc of life with injections of melancholy, humour and celebration.
4OUR premiered last October in Vancouver at The Dance Centre. It’s making a comeback with an East Coast tour, stopping at The Fredericton Playhouse in Fredericton, NB, the Imperial Theatre in Saint John, NB, the Lawrence O’Brien Arts Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, NL, and the LPSU Hall for the Festival of New Dance in St. John’s, NL. But before performers Laughlin with Gioconda Barbuto, Heather Dotto and Jarrett Siddall board their plane, they’ll be sharing the work again with Vancouver audiences on September 19.
The Dance Current speaks with Pite about Body and Soul, watching dance meant for the stage on a screen and the “slight sense of terror” that comes with choreographing. Body and Soul will stream for Canadians from Feb. 17 through 23.
The Three Cornered Hat presents a study of movement, space and human interaction that promotes audience participation all the while keeping a humorous and quirky disposition.
