Tedd Robinson Celebrated

On November 5, the Canada Council for the Arts announced that dancer, choreographer and educator Tedd Robinson had won the 2014 Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts.

 

Igor Dobrovolskiy Receives Lieutenant-Governor’s Award

In early November, Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada (ABTC) announced that Artistic Director Igor Dobrovolskiy was awarded the 2014 Lieutenant-Governor’s Award for High Achievement in Performing Arts, New Brunswick’s highest artistic honour.

 

Two Toronto Dance Students Receive Hnatyshyn Foundation Grants

Justin de Luna, a student in dance at the Ryerson Theatre School in Toronto and Andrew Swan Greer, a student at The School of Toronto Dance Theatre each received $10,000 grants from The Hnatyshyn Foundation to complete their studies in the 2014/2015 academic year.

 

Four Major Arts Awards Announced

Four significant arts organizations celebrated the accomplishments of Canadian artists by announcing major awards and prizes. The Prix Culturel Samuel de Champlain was awarded to choreographer Marie Chouinard, while Aszure Barton was awarded the Charles and Joan Gross Family Foundation Prize. Vancouver bestowed its Mayor’s Art Awards for 2014, with Jai Govinda winning the performance award, while Alejandro De Leon received $45,000 from the funding body CALQ (Le conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec) to create a new dance web series.

Montréal’s Paul-André Fortier and Margie Gillis received their insignia as Officers of the Order of Canada on September 12.
