Strategic Plan Announced

For Immediate Release – Dance Media Group announces five-year strategic plan

Toronto, ON (March 31, 2020) – Dance Media Group (DMG) – publishers of The Dance Current in print and online – is very excited to reveal its five-year strategic plan encompassing three strategic priorities and nine strategic goals.

Dance Media Group’s previous existing plan ended in 2019. The 2020-2024 strategic plan prioritizes ensuring equity across Dance Media Group’s short- and long-term priorities, operations, programming activities and decision-making.

“Dance Media Group is embarking on an exciting period of progression, and our forward-thinking strategic plan is key to building our momentum,” notes Timea Wharton-Suri, chair of the DMG board of directors. “Developed through wide-ranging input, the plan, along with our updated vision and mission, defines our place within the evolving media landscape and furthers our role as a hub for accessible and inclusive discourse about all things dance.”

With funding support from Ontario Arts Council’s (OAC) Compass Program, Dance Media Group hired Radha Nayar, principle of Nayar Consulting Inc., in 2019. The strategic planning process started in July 2019 and was grounded in environmental scanning and engagement with both internal and external stakeholders. The process concluded in March 2020 with a coinciding five-year implementation plan.

“Both the strategic and the implementation plans offer an important blueprint for propelling Dance Media Group’s exciting stage of growth resourcefully, ensuring sustainability of all of its publishing platforms and activities, while investing in its newly acquired charitable status and the opportunities that come with it,” says Crystal Melville, publisher of The Dance Current. “Among such strategic activities is the shift to quarterly print production in 2021, which will strengthen the capacity of our small but robust team, while allowing for the redesign of our digital platforms, new engagement with equity-seeking groups through a pilot photo-bursary program and increased fees to dance writers across Canada, in and beyond 2021.”
