Des arts dehors/Arts Outside is a new program in British Columbia supporting dance in francophone communities. Presented by Made in BC - Dance on Tour and Le conseil culturel et artistique francophone de la Colombie-Britannique, the program brings together BC artists whose works engage audiences in public spaces.
The development program was initiated by Julie Lebel as part of Made in BC - Dance on Tour’s community engagement activities and inspired by Jouer dehors by La danse sur les routes du Québec. In close and generous mentorship with Marie Bernier, project coordinator of La danse sur les routes du Québec, Lebel has brought her dream to life before stepping into a different role in the program as one of the participating artists.
As a choreographer Lebel joins Sarah Gallos Company and Isabelle Kirouac Company for the first cycle of Des arts dehors/Arts Outside.
The program began in December 2015 and runs until September 2016. Des arts dehors/Arts Outside is supported for the next three years by the Canada Council for the Arts through the Roadmap for Canada’s Official Languages.

The website shows dance hoops, a sweatshirt, a soup can and a hodgepodge of other items tumbling from the trunk of a hatchback on a B.C. highway. Click on any one of them and you’ll be whisked into a story about a dance artist who has toured the province through Made in BC – Dance on Tour or one of the community programs it has supported.
Digital Folk is part video game, part costume party and incorporates live music and dance. As an installation presented by Plastic Orchid Factory as part of Dance in Vancouver and DIY@DIV it was presented as a looping performance that took place on November 23 through 24 at Left of Main in Vancouver.
