Organization Description
The Dance Current is a niche consumer title published by the charitable not-for-profit, organization Dance Media Group/Groupe Danse Média. We produce print and online content and programming that engages with the pressing issues in the dance sector and the general public, cultivating literacy and critical discourse about the art, culture and practice of dance within Canada. We aim toward inclusivity in representation, reporting and storytelling: we place value on providing a platform for the range of expressions in dance art and practice.
 
Position Summary
The Dance Current is seeking an Audience Engagement Coordinator. This is a contract position, commencing July 29, 2019. Reporting to both the Executive Editor and Business Manager, the Audience Engagement Coordinator will maintain and enhance print and digital readership processes, records and strategies towards organizational growth.
The Dance Current is located in a small, shared office space at 401 Richmond Street in Toronto and operates with an annual budget of approximately $200,000. Given the small, not-for-profit nature of the organization, responsibilities may evolve and change over time based on organizational need and the expertise and fit of particular team members.
 
Primary Responsibilities
1: Coordinates subscription sales and distribution:
  • Coordinates circulation retention and growth plans, including print and digital subscriptions, renewals and single copy sales
  • Coordinates circulation partnership relationships with various target audience markets
  • Implements and maintains circulation and distribution schedules, data entry/tracking, records, processes and procedures, including subscriber mailing, distribution and renewal processes
  • Assist in sales outreach, marketing and publicity coordination
 
2: Coordinates digital engagement strategy:
  • Posts digital edition to Magzter and Flipster including issue hyperlinking
  • Develops and schedules social media programming, participating in the curatorial decision-making process
  • Reviews and researches social media streams for incoming information to contribute to editorial conversation
  • Posts content across all digital streams, writing content–related social media posts and sharing newsworthy and noteworthy information and announcements
  • Collegially communicates with community players via our social media pages
 
3: Maintains and enhances organization’s profile, records and knowledge:
  • Maintains the organization’s public profile, including attention to consistent representation of organizational identity, values, brand and messaging, and partnership agreements and acknowledgements
  • Reflects on and maintains our programming principles in all aspects of engagement
  • Maintains operational manual(s), statistical data/records and related processes and procedures relating to positions scope
  • Maintains editorial stock and archives (print and digital) tracking, implementing archival and back-up processes and procedures
 
The ideal candidate demonstrates:
  • Commitment to working collaboratively, independently and keeping team informed on key coordinates
  • Experience working in multi-platform audience engagement, marketing and writing
  • Curiosity and a nuanced understanding of audience data and analytics  
  • Exceptional, collegial, clear and compassionate verbal and written communication skills
  • Passion about how data can inform improved and enhanced engagement and organizational growth
  • Success adapting to and prioritizing multiple and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, G Suite, social media and using mobile and web applications – with the capacity to integrate new tools
 
Desirable Assets
  • Knowledge about and/or passion for dance, art, culture, publishing, archives and community practice
  • Journalism, marketing and/or community development training
  • French language skills
  • Hands-on experience working within the not-for-profit sector
  • Experience working with Drupal websites, PayPal, QuickBooks and Canva
