TransFormation is Dance à la Carte’s flagship event, and after 12 years it’s now one of Montréal’s most eagerly awaited dance intensives. This year’s iteration began on May 27th and ended on June 8th.
Lead by Dance à la Carte’s Artistic and General Director Lisa Davies, TransFormation has offered dance artists from Montréal, Canada, and abroad the chance to meet and learn from each other since its inception in 2007. The intensive culminates in a final presentation and closing party on the last day, at which artists and creators share their new creations.
The programming includes a list of Laboratories and Workshops. This year, the labs were lead by Hannes Langolf, Andrea Peña, Mathieu Leroux, Robin Pineda Gould, and Alexandra “Spicey” Landé, while Éric Beauchesne (Kidd Pivot), Lisa Davies (repertoire Ohad Naharin), Sarah Gibson (Gaga), Margie Gillis, Tilman O’Donnell, Andrej Petrovič (Akram Khan Company), Ami Shulman, and artists of RUBBERBANDance Group lead the Research and Development Workshops.
As a part of our series, Dance Criticism: Perceptions, challenges and the future, Grace Wells-Smith speaks to four Canadian dance critics about how dance criticism fits into the current fold.
